Academy Courses

BHS PDQ

These courses are perfect for young people who do not quite fit into mainstream school or college. For the younger students we are hoping to increase resilience and get them back into mainstream school, but for the older students we can offer an ideal stepping stone into preparation for adulthood.

On top of the qualification our learners will gain confidence, respect for others, the ability to communicate more freely, work as a team, follow instructions, problem solve. So many of the skills we coach are transferable to general everyday life, for example, if you understand the importance of feeding and caring for a horse, you may then understand the importance of the same in your own life to.

BHS Junior Awards

Country Treks are proud to be an official BHS Pony Stars Junior Challenge Awards Approved Centre. We deliver the British Horse Society (BHS) programme which aims to help under 12s discover, develop, and nurture their love for ponies and the outdoors. With over 100 topics for children to explore, Pony Stars will ignite a passion for ponies, build knowledge and cement friendships that will last a lifetime.

As part of the programme, each child will receive their very own My Challenge Book to log their achievements. As they progress through the various challenges there will be stickers, badges, and rosettes up for grabs too to keep them engaged and motivated. With four key groups, Pony Stars enables long-term progression with a range of activities that will develop knowledge, skills, and self-confidence. In each group your child will work through sets of challenges that make up topics within set themes.

BHS Ride Safe

The BHS Ride Safe Award helps educate riders in road safety, in order to minimise the risk involved when riding on the roads. The BHS Ride Safe Award is available to all riders from 11 years of age and is supported by the Department for British Transport. It is probably the only test that any rider will undertake that has the potential to save not only their own life, but that of their horse and other road users as well. It is not essential to own a horse in order to take the test, as we have many horses available for hire. Full training can be provided by Country Treks. This is an additional cost to the candidate and is normally the morning of the exam. Training can be provided on top of this if you feel you require it. Candidates do not have to be BHS members to take the BHS Ride Safe Award Test. Ride Safe gives you the knowledge to; ride safely on the road, along rights of way, across agricultural land, at the beach and when warming up at competitions. You will learn best practice on negotiating hazards and obstacles, understanding common road signs and how to deal with conflict or difficult situations when riding out
